I agree with Al Martinez that violence does beget violence (“Blood and Mayhem, All in the Name of Our Furry Friends,” Nov. 10), but to ridicule Pamela Anderson’s pleas for more humane methods in factory farming makes Martinez a NUT himself. It is not OK to cram, mutilate, de-beak, stress, deprive or make any animal’s life a living hell -- in particular just to please the palate.

As far as violence in our own race, we as humans decided to go to war, we choose violence on a daily basis, have guns and liberal gun laws, promote and support violent movies, etc. But what choice do animals have?
