From Times Wire Reports
Two freight trains carrying garbage collided as one was switching tracks, derailing several cars, injuring one crew member and trapping another in the engine.
A northbound Union Pacific train apparently struck the rear two-thirds of a southbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train near Kelso, between the Columbia River and an interstate, said Gus Melonas, a spokesman for Burlington Northern, which owns the tracks. One derailed car partially blocked a lane of traffic on Interstate 5.
Kelso is about 40 miles north of Portland, Ore.
