West Virginia Beats Pittsburgh

West Virginia’s Rasheed Marshall never had a chance when he and Pittsburgh’s Rod Rutherford were opposing high school quarterbacks. In college, that has all changed.

Marshall outplayed his longtime rival for the second consecutive season, throwing two touchdown passes and running for another score to lead West Virginia to a 52-31 victory over No. 16 Pittsburgh on Saturday night at Morgantown, W.Va.

Quincy Wilson rushed for 208 yards and four touchdowns to help the Mountaineers to their fifth straight victory and create a three-way tie atop the Big East standings.

Pittsburgh (7-3, 4-1), No. 14 Miami (8-2, 4-1) and West Virginia (6-4, 4-1) are even in the Big East. Earlier, West Virginia handed Virginia Tech its first loss and lost to Miami by two points.

Rutherford, whose Pittsburgh high school team beat Marshall’s three consecutive years, got off to a big start, throwing touchdown passes to star receiver Larry Fitzgerald of 23 and 45 yards on Pitt’s first two drives.

No. 12 Virginia Tech 24, Temple 23 -- Hokie quarterback Bryan Randall ran 23 yards for a touchdown in overtime, and the Owls missed an extra-point attempt on their matching touchdown to give Virginia Tech (8-2, 4-2) the victory at Philadelphia.

Walter Washington helped Temple (1-9, 0-5) overcome a 17-0 deficit in the fourth quarter, with the Owls tying it on Jared Davis’ 37-yard field goal with 40 seconds left in regulation.

No. 14 Miami 17, Syracuse 10 -- Freshman Tyrone Moss ran 16 times for 91 yards in the second half, and the Hurricanes (8-2, 4-1) rebounded from their first two-game losing streak in more than four years to beat the Orangemen (5-4, 2-3) at Miami.

Derrick Crudup, making his first start at quarterback for the Hurricanes in place of Brock Berlin, completed only five of 13 for 80 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Boston College 35, Rutgers 25 -- Paul Peterson threw a go-ahead 17-yard touchdown pass with 5:54 to play and Derrick Knight rushed for 224 yards and three scores to lead the Eagles (6-5, 2-4) over the Scarlet Knights (4-6, 1-4) at Piscataway, N.J.
