Two Israelis were killed in a shooting near the West Bank town of Bethlehem, which Israeli troops turned over to Palestinian security forces several weeks ago, rescue services said.

Shots were fired from a vehicle as it passed an army checkpoint where the two Israelis were standing, Army Radio reported. The attack followed by hours a statement by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who said he would meet soon with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ahmed Korei.
