From Staff and Wire Reports

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has withdrawn the nominations of five trustees to the governing board of California State University, officials of the university system said Thursday.

Though the withdrawals were not unexpected, the board of trustees might not be able to reach a quorum at meetings early next year, said Colleen Bentley-Adler, a spokeswoman for the Cal State system.

The board has 25 seats, but five are now vacant and two trustees’ terms will expire in March. Eleven members are required for a quorum.

Among those withdrawn as nominees were Maria Contreras-Sweet, the secretary of the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency in the Davis administration; Alice A. Huffman; Stanley M. Toy Jr.; Daniel Weinstein; and Milton M. Younger.
