From Bloomberg News

IBM Corp. said its scientists have developed a chip that may allow mobile phones to run as long as five days without recharging and to speed functions.

IBM and other companies may begin selling the chips for wireless devices in about five years, said Tak Ning, a researcher overseeing the project.

The chip may perform tasks such as running video as much as four times faster than today’s models and cut power consumption by a factor of five as a result of some data and communications transistors being placed on an ultra-thin layer of silicon, Ning said.
