High Court Suspends DNA Testing Deadline
From Times Wire Reports
The state Supreme Court set aside today’s deadline for convicts to request DNA testing that could prove their innocence.
By a 4-3 vote, the justices suspended the deadline while they consider the inmates’ challenge to the rule’s constitutionality. The high court will hear oral arguments Nov. 7.
The Legislature two years ago gave convicted criminals until today to ask judges for DNA testing of evidence.
Defense attorneys poring over hundreds of cases complained that there was no way for them to meet the deadline.
