Afghan Plan Outlines Rights for Women
A proposed Afghan constitution would enshrine equal rights for all and ban forced marriages, bridal dowries and other forms of discrimination, officials said Thursday.
The draft would guarantee women at least one seat from each of the 32 provinces in a national parliament, said Fatima Gailani, a member of the Constitutional Review Commission.
President Hamid Karzai is expected to make the draft public within days.
The central government still does not have firm control of the country. A land mine in Kabul exploded Thursday, killing two Canadian peacekeepers.
In the south, suspected Taliban militants ambushed trucks ferrying fuel to U.S.-led coalition forces and beheaded two people.
