Over Objections, Israel to Expand Settlements

Israel unveiled plans to build 604 new homes in three Jewish settlements in the West Bank, even though a U.S.-backed peace plan calls for a halt to such construction.
Israeli Housing Ministry spokesman Koby Bleich said the plan was in accordance with government policy. Palestinian Cabinet member Yasser Abed-Rabbo said the construction showed “that the [peace plan] has been fully assassinated by an Israeli policy of settlement expansion.”
