Thousands of Illegal Immigrants Are Caned

About 9,000 illegal immigrants have been lashed with rattan canes in Malaysia since tough immigration laws were introduced 14 months ago, a senior official said.
An additional 1,000 foreigners will be similarly punished after being convicted for illegally entering the country, Aseh Che Mat, the home ministry secretary general, told the national news agency, Bernama.
