This State’s Rights
Re “Congress Applies the Brakes to California Laws,” Oct. 19: To Sen. Christopher S. Bond (R-Mo.) and Rep. Michael G. Oxley (R-Ohio): Leave us alone! Why shouldn’t Californians have the right to say we want cleaner air than the engines produced in your state can give us? Why shouldn’t we have the right to have stronger privacy laws? Why shouldn’t we be able to tell companies that need to replace a fleet of vehicles that the new ones need to pollute less? Sen. Bond, you say our proposed laws will adversely affect jobs in your state. Well, your engines are adversely affecting my lungs.
