Re “Senate Agrees to Take Annual Pay Increase,” Oct. 24: In a feeble attempt to justify a pay increase for members of Congress, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is quoted as saying, “I think that our representatives of government deserve a pay raise consistent with the work that we’ve produced.”
With millions out of work, the economy in dire straits and health-care costs soaring, not to mention the situation in Iraq, does Frist really believe that they deserve a pay raise? In my opinion they deserve a cut both in pay and health benefits, like the rest of us have been forced to take. The only difference between the Senate and most Americans is that most Americans do a good job at work.
