Bowl Marketplace Rejects Union Bid

Workers at the much-loved Berkeley Bowl Marketplace on Thursday defeated a union organizing effort, voting 119 to 70 to remain a nonunion grocery store.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 120, which was behind the campaign, said employees voted against unionization because of management threats.
Store managers said the vote was a reflection of employees’ true feelings about the issue.
The store, named for its previous home in a former bowling alley, is a Berkeley institution.
