Car Stolen in Slaying Is Found

Fontana police have recovered the SUV that was stolen from Jose Galvez, the 40-year-old father of two who was killed Saturday after withdrawing cash from an ATM for a family Labor Day camping trip to Baja.

Galvez’s 2003 GMC Yukon was found on an unidentified street in Riverside, Fontana police spokesman Sgt. Mark Weissman said. Investigators were scouring the vehicle for clues Wednesday at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department crime lab.

Police have released a sketch of a suspect, who remained at large Wednesday. He is described as 18 to 25 years old, white or Latino, about 5 foot 8 and 180 pounds. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Although a video camera at a neighboring business showed a car entering the Bank of America on Cherry Street early Saturday, police believe it was driven by the person who reported the shooting -- not the suspect, Weissman said.

“We’re hoping there’s something in the [recovered] vehicle that will lead us to the killer,” Weissman said.

“We are putting all the resources we have into this case. Our detectives have taken this one to heart.... He was a good, honest person with a good, honest family. We want to bring them some closure.”
