Two lawyers accused of stealing $1 million from the City of Hope by staging a fraudulent auction of hospital properties pleaded no contest Tuesday, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office announced.

Joseph Warren Rohn pleaded no contest to grand theft, conspiracy and tax evasion and faces three years, eight months in state prison. Julia Eleanor Castlen is expected to receive a sentence of probation and community service for tax evasion. Both defendants will have to pay $1.2 million in restitution to City of Hope, a nonprofit cancer research and treatment center in Duarte, prosecutors said.

Rohn and Castlen are free on $1.3 million bail. Sentencing is set for Nov. 12.
