Three Who Would Be Governor

Share

Re “At Fresno Rally, Bustamante Switches Spotlight to Himself,” Sept. 8: Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante blurs the line between legal and illegal immigrants to get the votes of the Latino community, yet he insults all the legal immigrants, Latino and non-Latino alike, who have respected the laws of the United States and spent years filling out forms and waiting -- and spending large sums of money -- to arrive here honestly.

He also backs amnesty for illegal immigrants living in California. This is not a solution to this problem but an inducement for future illegal immigrants; but this just might be his solution for the budget deficit, by adding a million new taxpayers to the state’s income tax rolls.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center report clears Arnold Schwarzenegger’s father as a storm trooper who did not engage in any war crimes (Sept. 9) but fails to point up Schwarzenegger’s need to associate with those who further his ambitions and, in terms of Nazism, with former U.N. Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim, who sought to hide his war crime record as an Austrian supporting Hitler. Waldheim was invited to Schwarzenegger’s wedding to Maria Shriver.

This is enough to say no to Schwarzenegger’s desire to be governor.

The more I listen to Schwarzenegger campaign for “more teachers, more books, more after-school tutoring and no new car tax,” the more he sounds like a 9-year-old running for school president on a campaign of more candy, longer recess and no homework.

Schwarzenegger should lighten up. He criticizes and belittles all, particularly Gov. Gray Davis, and then acts hurt when he’s criticized in return. Sure, he can pronounce “California,” but he sounds like a Teutonic automaton when saying it. I look forward to seeing his next film.

A lot of people have indicated a preference for state Sen. Tom McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) for governor but say they will not vote for him because “he can’t win.” If all of them vote for McClintock, he will win.
