From Times Wire Reports

Mayor Dick Murphy is shopping around a proposal to raise the city’s hotel room tax from 10.5% to 13%.

The proposed increase would raise about $26 million a year. A draft of the mayor’s proposal says the new revenue would be used to promote tourism, improve public safety and boost spending on libraries, parks, and arts and cultural activities.

Murphy said the proposal would be put onto the March ballot only if it gained broad community support. He has been speaking with tourism-related groups and business interests to ask them to consider the idea.
