Boy, You Let One Little Game Get Away ...

Share

If the Dodgers don’t win the National League wild-card berth, Jim Tracy must go. Wednesday night’s game against Arizona was the clincher.

Let’s see: You want to bring in Paul Quantrill but you know Diamondback Manager Bob Brenly will counter with Steve Finley, who is seven for nine against Quantrill. So that seems like a really stupid option. You can stay with Tom Martin against Robby Hammock, which seems risky but probably not fatal. Then you have the best pitcher in baseball warming up in the bullpen to pitch against anyone who feels like getting embarrassed. Let’s recap:

A) Really stupid choice of letting Quantrill face Finley.

B) Less stupid choice of letting Martin face Hammock.

C) Extremely smart choice of letting Gagne face anyone.

Tracy picks A, Dodgers lose. Goodbye wild card.

Micromanager Tracy recently left Odalis Perez in a game until he gave up 10 runs.

Wednesday, he pulled Kazuhisa Ishii after six innings of a one-hit shutout. He then passed on bringing in Gagne with four outs to go. Way to handle the pitching staff, Jim. Game over. Wild card over. Season over.
