Man Accused of Trespass at Schwarzenegger Home

A man accused of trespassing on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Brentwood estate pleaded not guilty Tuesday to five misdemeanor counts.

Richard Sathianathan, 32, was charged with two counts of trespassing, and one count each of prowling, vehicle tampering and petty theft, said Matt Szavo, spokesman for the city attorney’s office.

Sathianathan was arrested Sunday and was being held in jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, Szavo said. He was scheduled to return to court for a bail hearing on Monday.

Sathianathan, originally from Toronto, has no known address, Szavo said.

According to the complaint, Sathianathan entered the grounds of the Schwarzenegger home by jumping over a fence and allegedly stole items valued at less than $400 from one of the family’s vehicles.

Police said Sathianathan was first spotted at the actor’s home early Saturday. “We got a call that security for Arnold Schwarzenegger was detaining a trespassing suspect,” Los Angeles Police Officer Jason Lee said.

Lee said officers were called to the home but did not book Sathianathan because the security guards declined to make a citizen’s arrest. Misdemeanors must occur in the presence of law enforcement officers for them to make an arrest.

Police released Sathianathan following questioning but arrested him after he allegedly returned to the Schwarzenegger home later Sunday.
