Adult Business Ruling Will Only Hurt the Poor
Re “New Curbs on Strip Clubs OKd,” Sept. 17: With all the severe problems Los Angeles has, it would be comical that the City Council and Mayor James Hahn have declared war on lap dancing were it not for the fact that taxpayers’ money is being wasted on such trivialities. In these hard times the city can ill afford to shut down any business activity that produces taxable income.
This is merely a symptom of the city’s anti-small-business attitude and, as usual, those who will be hurt most are the poor. Low-income women will be thrown to the mercy of an unforgiving and dire job market or forced into illegal activities, all thanks to the City Council.
