Affordable Housing Plan May Not Materialize

A plan by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors to provide affordable housing for people with low incomes may not be carried out after all, housing advocates said.

County supervisors pledged six months ago to adopt a policy requiring that 10% of all units in new residential developments be affordable for low-income residents.

The county staff has been negotiating details of the plan with affordable housing advocates since then.

But now, advocates say, the result of those talks ignores the needs of people in the lowest income bracket and doesn’t even ensure that the housing will get built.
