3 Officials Suspended Over Taj Mahal Project
Three senior Indian officials were suspended in Uttar Pradesh state for alleged involvement in the approval of a $40-million tourism complex near the Taj Mahal, officials said.
The project, which violated laws protecting the monument, was halted.
Akhand Pratap Singh, a senior state official, said the officials were charged with illegally amassing wealth and dereliction of duty. They are D.S. Bagga, former highest official in Uttar Pradesh; Panna Lal Punia, secretary for the state’s highest elected official; and state Environment Secretary V.K. Gupta.
