Congress OKs $500,000 for Anti-Meth Efforts
Congress has approved an additional $500,000 to help fight the war on methamphetamine in the Central Valley.
The money is in addition to $2.5 million allocated annually for the anti-meth program, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Tulare) said Thursday.
“This is just a small step toward fighting a huge problem here in the Central Valley,” said Nunes, a member of the Congressional Caucus to Fight and Control Methamphetamine. “Legislators from the rest of the country need to know that if they want to effectively combat this devastating drug, they need to target the factory-sized meth labs that produce them. Those factories are right here.”
Fresno and Tulare counties are among the top five meth-producing areas in the state. California supplies 80% of the meth consumed in the United States, drug enforcement officials said.
