Being ‘Out of It’ Seems Just Fine, Thank You

Share

Re “On the Outs, and Loving Every Minute,” Commentary, March 30: Thank you, Betty Rollin. I am with you 100%. I have not seen all of the programs you have not seen and do not feel deprived. I don’t know who J.Lo is and don’t want to know. I do not even know the nut case who had the quickie wedding/divorce in Las Vegas. I also have never watched any of the myriad award shows and don’t know the winners. What TV I do watch can be watched while working a crossword puzzle or reading a book. I’ve never worried about being “out of it,” but now I feel like I am in good company.

Dear Ms. Rollin: Have you been reading my mind? I thought as I read your piece that I must have written it in my sleep and didn’t remember writing it. Everything you said applies to my life and the choices I’ve made. My friends and the people with whom I work think that I’m either mad or just getting old and resisting change. I used to know what people were saying and how they were saying it; but when I started to see and hear the phrase, “Talk to the hand,” even in the comics, I had no clue what it meant and discovered that I really didn’t care. Thank you for your refreshing take on a subject dear to my heart.

Well, back to my book.
