Woman Who Set Off Blast Is Hurt; 1 Killed
A woman detonated a bomb in an apartment in central Uzbekistan, killing one person and critically injuring herself, police said. Reports of the identity of the dead person varied.
The latest violence occurred as Interior Ministry official Ilya Pyagay blamed the Al Qaeda network for recent suicide bombings and shootouts that have left at least 44 dead, most of them alleged to be militants.
President Islam Karimov initially hinted that the attacks and blasts were linked to Hizb ut-Tahrir; the extremist Islamic group denied involvement.
