Nikita Bogoslovsky, 90; Russian Composer of Scores for Films, Shows

Nikita Bogoslovsky, 90, Soviet-era composer of more than 300 musical scores, died Saturday in Moscow of natural causes.

Bogoslovsky composed music for 120 films and 80 shows, becoming one of the Soviet Union’s most beloved composers, the Russian ITAR-Tass news agency said. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the composer’s family.

During World War II, Bogoslovsky gave concerts near the front lines and at military hospitals. Among his most famous compositions were “Dark Night” and “I Dreamed of You for Three Years.”

“His songs represent the history of our country,” said Vladislav Kazenin, chairman of the Union of Composers. “They expressed all the feelings, cares and aspirations of our people.”
