A federal jury began deliberations in the trial of four former Qwest Communications International Inc. executives accused of improperly booking $34 million in revenue and then lying to auditors and the FBI.

Prosecutors say the four created false statements to record revenue for equipment that had not been purchased as part of a $100-million deal to link Arizona schools to the Internet.

Defense attorneys said the executives were not fully informed or did not fully understand the accounting principles in the deal.
