Phony $100 Bills Being Circulated

Counterfeit $100 bills have shown up in Ukiah, police said.
The Ukiah Police Department said the bogus bills are hard to detect because they’re printed on actual currency paper.
People need to be aware of a new counterfeiting trend: using valid $5 bills and altering them into fake $100 bills, said Det. Randy Johnson. Because the bills are on real currency paper, they will pass currency authenticity tests that use detection pens.
