WTO Says EU’s Tariff Exemptions Are Legal

The European Union’s tariff exemptions for imports from Pakistan and 11 Latin American nations don’t illegally discriminate against other countries, the World Trade Organization ruled, upholding an EU appeal.

The EU appealed an October decision by a WTO panel that had said $4.7 billion of tariff exemptions, which the EU gives countries including Colombia and Venezuela fighting illegal drug production, were illegal. The WTO ruled the EU may tailor the tariffs it imposes.
