A Bounty Hunt on Government Waste

Re “Cities Losing Loaner Beach Vehicles,” April 5: Is it any wonder that Orange County and the state have both been on the verge of going broke? Have the terms “you’re fired” and “recall” lost their effect? It seems to me it would be much cheaper and more cost-effective to outright buy or lease the vehicles and equip them properly than to have ill-equipped rented vehicles that cost $1,100 each per month. Correct me if I’m wrong (I am not a politician), but new and/or leased vehicles should cost less than half what the rented ones cost.

Are there any auto sales/leasing agents out there willing to make a call and save us from this debauchery? You might even make a nice earned commission too. Hey, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger! Since you’re having a hard time finding budget cuts that won’t alienate any voters, how about looking into all the state’s vehicle agreements? You can send me a 10% finder’s fee on every dollar saved. What a concept: Find government waste and collect a small fee. I bet there are millions in this state who would love to find waste, make a buck and feel like they contributed to a worthy cause -- the taxpayers of this great state.
