Camp Plan Could Lead to Mountain of Trouble

Share

Re “Growth Debate Follows Fires” (April 5), on Inland Empire development and the proposed Royal Rangers Adventure Camp and Conference Center: The Royal Rangers’ development would simply overwhelm the mountain area. It would create massive construction near the scenic highway of high concrete walls. It would accommodate more than 1,000 guests in an area with extreme fire danger, water rationing, inadequate sanitation treatment, limited evacuation routes and severely damaged traffic arteries. Moreover, the Royal Rangers group intends to rent out the facility, hoping to offset the considerable cost, thus assuring continuous high-impact use.

This development needs to be significantly reduced in scope and intrusion. There must be a degree of respect for the infrastructure limitations to support it. It will be interesting to see if the San Bernardino Board of Supervisors has the fortitude to send it back for a haircut.
