Police Detective Admits Stealing Cocaine
A former New York City police detective admitted that he and other officers stole narcotics and money from drug dealers for at least five years, reselling the drugs and pocketing the proceeds.
Julio Vasquez pleaded guilty to narcotics conspiracy charges as part of a plea bargain, telling a Brooklyn federal judge he stole and resold more than 11 pounds of cocaine. He’ll return $800,000 as part of his deal with prosecutors.
With Vasquez’s cooperation, as many as 10 officers have been implicated in the scheme, including his former partner, officials said.
He faces more than 27 years in prison.
