Entertainers Urge Plan for Renewable Energy

More than a dozen entertainment industry figures, including Bill Maher and actors Benicio Del Toro and Alec Baldwin, sent a letter to Mayor James K. Hahn on Tuesday, urging the DWP to convert 20% of its energy production to renewable sources.
“We can either continue to rely on dirty, unreliable and unsustainable energy sources.... or we can choose to take the smart energy path to clean, affordable energy sources such as solar, wind and geothermal,” the letter said.
A City Council panel has asked the Department of Water and Power to develop a plan this summer for reaching the 20% goal by 2017.
