The Ventura County Grand Jury has indicted an Oakview construction worker in the rape and slaying of an Oxnard teenager three years ago.

Douglas Dworak, 37, was arraigned Monday on charges that he raped and killed Crystal Hamilton, 18, on April 22, 2001. The indictment includes a special circumstance allegation that Dworak intentionally killed Hamilton during the commission of a rape, making him eligible for the death penalty.

Dworak pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Hamilton, whose body was found along a rocky beach south of Mussel Shoals, had been visiting friends in Ventura the day she disappeared.

Dworak was arrested in September in the assault and drowning of Hamilton after semen found in the autopsy was compared with a national database of DNA profiles. The defendant’s profile had been entered in the database after he was convicted of rape in Napa County in 1987.

According to the California Department of Corrections, Dworak, who served nine years for rape, was released to Ventura County in 1996.
