Unfair Treatment of a Legal Alien

Re “Parolee Appeals Plan to Deport Her,” April 27: Why the heck are U.S. authorities sending Maria Suarez back to Mexico? Assuming her explanation for why she participated in the killing of the guy who repeatedly raped and tortured her is true, I don’t understand why she was incarcerated. Had I been a juror, I’d have found her guilty but asked for a sentence of probation and classes to teach her how to use the legal system to rectify a situation like the one she was in.

If the state was convinced that she had to do some time (which would be understandable, though I’d disagree), it certainly should have been something less than 22 years. So she’s not a citizen. So what? She came here legally. How many illegals are here that we make no effort to deport? This lady’s family played by the rules, and our legal system seems to have abused her horribly. She should be shown some compassion; the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement should get about its work of rounding up and deporting the real illegals.
