Ex-Baggage Screeners Charged With Theft
Four former Transportation Security Administration employees were indicted in Detroit on charges they stole laptop computers and other valuables from baggage being screened at the city’s international airport.
The indictment follows what officials acknowledged to be serious shortcomings in airport security, despite the multibillion-dollar federal overhaul of the aviation system under the Department of Homeland Security.
The U.S. attorney’s office said the federal grand jury indictment stemmed from a string of thefts at Detroit’s Metropolitan Airport.
