Union Asks for Trustee to Oversee United
From Associated Press
The International Assn. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, claiming that executives of UAL Corp.’s United Airlines have lost employees’ trust, filed a motion in U.S. Bankruptcy Court asking a judge to appoint a trustee to oversee the airline’s operations.
Analysts say that though the machinists’ motion is not likely to succeed, it could result in the eventual removal of United’s current management and -- in the most extreme scenario -- eventual liquidation.
A spokesman for United, which is based in Elk Grove Township, Ill., called the union’s motion unhelpful.
