‘Old Woman’ Has a Role at a Different Venue

I was very pleased to read that muralist Kent Twitchell is planning to re-create his 1974 work, “Old Woman of the Freeway,” in Sherman Oaks (Aug. 8). I was an L.A. mural aficionado in 1975 when I had the pleasure of meeting Lillian Bronson, Twitchell’s model for “Old Woman.” I spoke to her many times during the mid-1970s about the mural and her many movie and television roles. She seemed pleased by the attention, and I assured her that she would live on as our own Old Woman.

Sadly, Bronson died in 1995 at the age of 92, having seen the eventual disappearance of the mural. To this day, when driving north on the 101 near downtown, I look at that wall and think of the assurance I gave her that she would live forever. Good luck with the project, Mr. Twitchell. I thank you for allowing a delightful old lady and one of L.A.’s artistic treasures to live again.
