‘Expedited Return’ of Illegal Immigrants

I applaud the Bush administration’s new “expedited return” policy for dealing with those who illegally enter our country (Aug. 11). For years, politicians and lawmakers have sent the message that they are willing to ignore the blatant breaking of our laws in order not to offend important voting blocs.

It never occurred to them that these voters they were trying to curry to were “legal” citizens who might be offended by constantly having to inform others that they are not an “undocumented” and “illegal” person.

It never occurred to them that they were jeopardizing the safety of America. In our post- 9/11 world, I find comfort in the fact that maybe common sense is beginning to break out. I hope it prevails.
