From Times Wire Reports

Without setting up a roadblock or even making an appearance, Maoist rebels cut off Katmandu from the rest of Nepal by declaring a blockade, leaving the capital with only a few days’ worth of food and cooking fuel.

Extra police were on the roads leading into the city, but no drivers defied the guerrillas, who were pressing demands that the government release jailed comrades. No rebel barricades were reported.

In the past, rebels have burned vehicles and planted mines to enforce blockades.
