That prefab look is not for everyone

When I first saw today’s Home section (“Prefab Becomes Ab Fab,” Aug. 19), I thought you were doing a story on the hurricane damage in Florida.

I was surprised, in your fascinating article on prefab homes, to find no mention of another famous California architect, Cliff May, who also ventured into the design of prefab homes in the 1950s. We had one of his contemporary-style ranch houses put together for us in 1954, and we still own it. It featured lots of glass, including glazed gable ends, for feeling outdoors while indoors. Cost back in 1954: $8,100!
