Parliament Elects New Prime Minister
From Times Wire Reports
Pakistan’s parliament elected former Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz, a close ally of President Pervez Musharraf, as prime minister.
Articulate and media-savvy, Aziz, 55, is credited with reforming an economy that was crippled by international sanctions imposed after Pakistan tested nuclear weapons in 1998.
The change in prime ministers is not expected to affect key policies such as Pakistan’s support of the U.S.-led war on terrorism or the peace process with rival India.
