The bodies of a San Diego man and a Briton have been found on the slopes of a volcano in southern Nicaragua, the family of the Californian said Saturday.

Jordan Alexander Ressler, 23, of San Diego and Nicholas Roth, 28, of London were last seen as they left more than two weeks ago to climb the 4,600-foot Maderas volcano, 60 miles southeast of Managua, the Nicaraguan capital.

Rescue workers found the bodies on the lower slopes of the volcano.

Ressler’s family said the travelers apparently fell to their deaths after venturing off the main trail and attempting to traverse a steep ledge.

Gary Ressler said his brother, a stage and film professional with an Ivy League education, apparently met Roth on the road.

Rescuers had to contend with heavy fog during the initial days of the search, during which helicopters and dogs were brought in to locate the men.

Ressler’s parents -- artist Vivien Ressler and attorney Jeffrey Ressler of La Jolla -- traveled to Nicaragua after their son’s disappearance.

The couple reportedly offered a reward in the search.
