A good year but ...

Hollywood is having a good year at the box office, but if you take into account ticket price inflation, movie admissions would still be down from the record of 2002, the year of the original “Spider-Man,” “Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”

Movie box office -- The By the Numbers chart in Friday’s Calendar section described 2002 as a record year for movie admissions. There were 1.64 billion admissions in 2002, but nearly 4.7 billion tickets were sold each year from 1945 to 1948. The record set in 2002 was for theatrical box office revenue of $9.5 billion.
