The Environment Is Worth the Effort

Re “Governors Seek Easing of Endangered Species Act,” Dec. 4: Somehow I have trouble feeling sorry for the energy companies, loggers and developers who have had to abide by the Endangered Species Act for the last 31 years. All three sectors seem to have done quite well, haven’t they?

I also don’t buy the argument that the act’s failure to save every targeted species makes it irrelevant. Even if we often fail, shouldn’t we still try to prevent these animals from disappearing forever? This president’s policies have ensured that the nation we pass on to future generations will be a poorer one, not only in wealth but in life. When did conservatives stop caring about conserving?
