Editor Killed Soon After Criticizing Media Law

A prominent Gambian newspaper editor who had condemned new restrictions on the media was slain as he drove home from work.
Deyda Hydara, 58, managing editor and co-owner of The Point, was shot Thursday, said Pap Saine, another owner of the paper. Parliament this week approved a law setting out jail terms for reporters found guilty of sedition or libel.
