Old Convention Center’s Demise Draws a Crowd
From Times Wire Reports
In about 20 seconds, most of the 22-year-old Washington Convention Center collapsed into a pile of rubble from a controlled implosion.
A small crowd cheered as the roof and three sides of the structure came tumbling down. The site disappeared behind a huge cloud of dust.
The space will be turned into a 1,200-space parking lot by September pending a decision on development. The city last year opened a convention center three times larger than the old one.
