Historic Home a Jewel

Re “A Civic War Is Brewing Over ‘Tara’ Estate,” Jan. 29: A historic designation on a building or site is not a “disposable” item. History and significance do not disappear because the economy changes or “affordable” housing is in short supply.

Elsie Weisman’s former property represents a preserved jewel in an increasingly decomposing city. West Hollywood has a committed obligation to the community and to the Weisman family. Period. The city needs to find an alternative site and live up to the promise it made when it accepted Weisman’s generous gift. Elsie may have left “Tara,” but some of us still “give a damn.”
