Chino Hills Killer’s Death Date Fought
With the execution of convicted killer Kevin Cooper set for Feb. 10, his attorneys on Monday filed appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court, state Supreme Court and a federal district court seeking a delay.
Attorney David Alexander said Monday that he filed a writ to the state Supreme Court requesting a stay of execution to allow further testing of evidence in the 1983 slaying of four people in Chino Hills. Cooper’s attorneys also petitioned the U.S. District Court in Northern California, arguing that execution by lethal injection is cruel and unusual punishment.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has denied Cooper clemency.
