A forum for designers

Hollyhock, the quietly glamorous, high-ticket antiques and home furnishings store, has always been a place where the worlds of design, Hollywood and high society come together on a handful of evenings each year to hear celebrated designers talk about the elements of style. Most recently, the West Hollywood store played host to New York power design team Stephen Sills and James Huniford, whose clients have included Vera Wang, Tina Turner and Ian Schrager. The duo recently published their first book, “Dwellings: Living With Great Style,” both a practical decorating guide and a compendium of 250 photos of their interiors (one seen at right).

Hollyhock owner and interior designer Suzanne Rheinstein shared hostess duties with Jamie Tisch, wife of Hollywood producer Steve Tisch. Sills and Huniford met Rheinstein at last year’s Paris Biennale antiques fair, and the Tisches through mutual friends whose New York apartment they had decorated. It was their work in that East Coast dwelling that inspired Jamie to redecorate her own house last year, on her own. There were only two rooms her husband declared off-limits: his office and his screening room.
